This painting began as a sketch of an old mill building in Sabattus Maine. I did some detailed pen and ink sketches as well as some smaller compositional sketches. I love the stories that old buildings have to tell. The views offered by the building in reality didn't really lend itself to a painting. High snowbanks and a lack of proper gear prevented me from getting to a better angle. As I thought about different options, and different possibilities offered by different seasons I decided to paint this birds eye view with reflections of the trees in the mill pond and the failing dam in the foreground.
This painting is an acrylic base with oil highlights.
